1.2 Kg of heroin seized, two held

Imphal, February 16 2023: Altogether 1251 grams of heroin (No 4) were seized and two drug dealers were arrested by security forces today.
A team of Bishnupur commandos while conducting an intensified frisking and checking exercise along Tiddim Road arrested a couple along with 101 soap cases containing heroin (No 4) weighing 1251 grams in front of Bishnupur industrial estate gate at around 9 am today.
In the course of the frisking and checking exercise, one four-wheeler (Jeep Compass) with Manipur registration number coming from Churachandpur and headed towards Kangpokpi district was detained for verification and checking.
On checking the vehicle, 101 soap cases containing heroin were found concealed in secret chambers in different parts of the vehicle.
On weighing in presence of a Magistrate, the total weight of the heroin was found to be 1251 grams.
Apart from seizing the drug, the driver of the vehicle identified as Ngamkholet Lhungdim (32) s/o Holkholun Lhungdim of Phoilen village, Chandel district and his wife Lhingneikim Lhungdim (28) were arrested on the spot.
The commandos also seized the vehicle by observing necessary formalities and in presence of witnesses.
Incidentally, Chief Minister N Biren was on his way to Moirang along with Works Minister K Govindas when the commandos were in the process of seizing the contraband item.
The Chief Minister halted his motorcade and lauded the commandos.
He also directed Bishnupur district police to investigate the case thoroughly and ensure that other people involved in the case, if any, are also arrested.
Later, the arrested couple and seized items were handed over to the Bishnupur police station for taking up necessary legal action under ND& PS Act, said sources.
