Back when the mobile phone had only just started to rise to everyday prominence in the 1980s, Salcomp was there with the first switch-style charger for the eventual iPhone precursors. The company has also grown from its Finnish roots to expand worldwide, with manufacturing centers in China, Brazil and India in 2023.
Now, Apple’s source of the once ubiquitous A1339 charger for devices such as the iPhone 6 series has declared its intention to still be around in 2026 by betting big on the latter. Salcomp has stated that it sees itself getting up to US$3 billion in revenue from manufacturing based in India by then.
Accordingly, the company plans to diversify the range of products and components it makes in the country to harness this potential; India is projected to make up to US$300 billion from electronics manufacturing over the next 3 years), after all.
Salcomp plans to augment its 12,000-strong personnel in India by as many as 13,000 additional employees to achieve its end. These workers may be involved in the manufacture of "hydropower electronics equipment and components" as well as "solar microinverters" and electric vehicle power accessories.
The firm has yet to mention clients for either new line of product; therefore, it is impossible to say that the Apple Car and the iPhone might share a supplier of chargers one day at this point.
